What is Ashadh masanta?
“Masanta” (मसान्त) means the last day of a month. Ashadh masanta is therefore the last day of Ashadh, the third month of the Bikram Sambat (BS) calendar. Because BS months don't have a fixed length, Ashadh can have 31 or 32 days — so Ashadh masanta is sometimes Ashadh 31 and sometimes Ashadh 32.
In the Gregorian (AD) calendar it always falls in mid-July — on 15 or 16 July.
Why Ashadh masanta matters
Nepal's fiscal year runs from Shrawan 1 to the end of Ashadh. Many yearly payments and renewals are due by Ashadh masanta, most commonly:
- MeroShare annual renewal (standard fee: Rs 50)
- DeMat account annual maintenance (standard fee: Rs 100)
- Other fiscal-year-end deadlines set by banks, brokers and offices
